"Yes, I am Creatively Bent"
Helen Krieger is a self-taught Artist in the Chicago/LaSalle area of Illinois, and admits that she has been "Creatively Bent... since she could first pick up a crayon." Helen feels her biggest influence was having a very creative mother. "My Mom was constantly creating with what was around her & worked in a wide variety of mediums, as do I."
Growing up Helen turned low self-esteem and a lack of self-confidence into a Passion, and in recent years has been a full-time artist gaining recognition through Local and State competitions, winning a First Place ribbon in the 2021 State Town & Country Art Show, in Champaign, IL. for her watercolor: "100 years Young." In 2019 she won Second Place in the same competition for her watercolor: "Succulents," and an Honorable Mention for her Watercolor Painting: "My Mother's Iris" at the "Exibit Fine Art & Gallery" show in Morris, IL. .
Helen desires to use art to impact others which is reflected in her new series: "Rise Above Street Level-expressing awe for the human spirit's ability to overcome", currently on display at NCI Artworks in the Westclox gallery, Peru, IL. For the month-long gallery show she created 2D & 3D pieces, using a variety of materials, several honor people who have overcome life-altering experiences, and three pieces are on display which were created "Live" during a Local 12-step program. When visiting the Event page on this website you may view each piece and it's corresponding short bio by clicking on each photo.
Helen captures the diverse beauty she sees in people, nature and places through the use of Watercolors, Pastels, and Acrylics and she takes her art onto a variety of substrates, including glass, metal & clay. During the holidays she creates unique hand-painted ornaments and accepts custom orders.
